Squeak! I finally got my hands on the latest copy of Jamie!
(It’s a drool-worthy food magazine by Jamie Oliver.)

Although I bake so often, I never really pay much attention to how a recipe is written. It really is quite a difficult job. The different nuances, adjectives and phrasing of the various steps that make up the recipe can make a big difference to how your dish turns out!

The writers have  the difficult task of making sure the language used is clear, simple and precise so that the recipe will be understood and easy-to-follow by everyone. My exploding truffles are the perfect example of poorly phrased instructions!

Stir, fold, mix, whisk, knead, stretch, chop, dice, julienne, shred, pound, toss, sauté, blanch, poach… I must say, I have picked up quite a wide culinary vocabulary without even realizing it! Goes to show how much you can learn by reading good books & magazines, as well as watching cooking shows. :)

Mmmn. The Banoffi Split looks scrumptious.

Banoffi Split

I think I’ll make this for John tonight. He’s been so stressed lately, but he doesn’t want to tell me why. :( He needs some sugar-induced endorphins to cheer him up. :)

I can’t wait for the Bali shoot! Our photos are going to be so unbelievably gorgeous! I can’t wait to show all my aunties and cousins. Who needs to take cheesy photos at Sentosa with the giant Merlion when you have Bali? :)

I’m so lucky to have a fiance like John who doesn’t mind taking care of all the costs so I can have my dream wedding. I can’t imagine what my wedding would be like if John didn’t have such a stable and lucrative job – he really takes such good care of me.

I know I haven’t been very frugal when it comes to the wedding, but I can’t help it. I’ve dreamed of this day for so long. Even when I was six years old and I went to Auntie Min’s wedding, I knew that I wanted a huge, magical wedding when I grew up. And now that it’s finally my turn, I want it to be something I can hold on to. Something I can remember for
the rest of my life.

I’ll make it up to John after the wedding; I’ll be frugal. I’ll even stay away from shoe sales!

I just want the wedding to be perfect, that’s all. And thanks to my darling John, it’s going to be a dream come true. :)

Squeal! I found a blogshop that does custom-made wedding gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses!

I’ve been dreaming of this Vera Wang gown since it appeared in the Fall 2009 collection… I wonder if the blogshop can tailor something like it?

The Gown

I’m crossing my fingers… and my toes, just in case  :P

This is how the DIY truffles were supposed to turn out. I ended up with Min falling off her chair laughing at my exploding truffles. Sadly, that’s not a euphemism; the dratted things exploded and cracked in the fridge, for some reason.

Oh, well. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!

I really hope they don’t explode the second time, though. Poor John – I was on the phone with him when I opened the fridge door and started shrieking at the sight of the sad, ruined truffles. He thought we were being robbed. :P

John seems preoccupied. This wedding is really bringing out his dark side. I want to see him smile more, like he used to. What is he not telling me?

This dress is so cute!! I don’t know whether I should get it or not. John says my blogshop addiction is getting a bit scary. But it’s… so cute!

Sigh. Didn’t get into the Paris baking course. I guess it is all for the best. Now I can concentrate on the wedding. But I am getting worried about John. He is talking even less these days, and seems very terse whenever the subject of the wedding comes up.

Is he having doubts? Doesn’t he want to get married?

Looking forward to the ring buying trip! Mom loves diamond rings. She showed me the ring Dad got her when they got married. She said, it is the measure of a man’s love for you.

How am I going to give tuition this week if I am throwing up every morning? And I have at least three cake orders to fulfill! Thank goodness Huimin is helping me out with packing and delivery. I hope she doesn’t find a job soon, heehee. Fresh English graduates without a job are so useful to have around (sorry sis!).

This wedding is so important. Mom is so excited about this that it seems she invited just about everyone she knows. I hope there are enough tables. I so want to please her. She never quite got over my decision to be a baker/tuiition teacher after graduating. I remember her rallying the relatives to talk me out of it. Never mind, this big wedding will make up for everything. :)

Thank goodness John’s bonus can cover the cost of my Big Fat Singapore Wedding. Having a fiance who is a well-paid investment banker has its advantages.

Sometimes though, I wonder if I am doing the right thing. John keeps so many things to himself and we’ve known each other for only a year. One year, one month and 6 days, to be exact. Is this long enough for two people to know each other and get married? I don’t even know what John really does in the bank.

Who could have known we’d end up together that day when I saw him in the book store over at the car magazine rack, and I was heading for the cake books?

Speaking of baking, that year-long Paris baking course is such an opportunity. I hope my application is successful. Fingers crossed.
